Stenson visits U.S. Open siteMonday, December 31st, 2007
Henrik Stenson didn't have to put a ball in the rack and wait his turn to tee off at Torrey Pines, but he sure got a taste of municipal golf when he made an unannounced visit to the home of the 2008 U.S. Open.
Stenson knew he wouldn't be able to play the Buick Invitational next month because he will be on the European tour in the Middle East. When he arrived in California for the Target World Challenge, he made a detour to San Diego and booked a twosome on the golf course.
USGA honors former President George H. W. BushMonday, December 31st, 2007
Former President George H.W. Bush was chosen to receive the Bob Jones Award from the U.S. Golf Association, its highest honor. The award is for distinguished sportsmanship in golf, and recognizes a person who emulates the golf attitude and spirit of amateur great Bobby Jones.
"I'm very flattered to receive this award," Bush said in a statement. "Golf has meant a lot to me. It means friendship, integrity and character.
With final ranking published, Masters field taking shapeMonday, December 31st, 2007
Boo Weekley has been so busy building a house he hasn't bothered checking the mail. He might want to keep alert the next few weeks for a white envelope with a return address of Augusta, Georgia.
With the final world ranking published on Monday, Masters invitations will be in the mail soon.
"I've got to have that to get in?" Weekley asked.
He was pleased to hear the invitation was a mere formality, not to mention a souvenir like no other.

The 82 players who have qualified and are expected to compete in the 72nd Masters, to be played April 10-13 at Augusta National Golf Club (players listed in only one category). The final field will be set on March 31.

Lorena Ochoa didn't have a blueprint for becoming the best in the world, and she certainly didn't have a role model. Mexico had yet to produce anything resembling a world-class golfer, and Ochoa did not look like one at age 12.
So it was surprising when she told her coach she wanted to be No. 1.
"At that time, with the way I was playing, and being in Guadalajara, it was a little bit crazy to think that way," Ochoa said toward the end of a historic season. "But I did it.
