Sabbatini tops Furyk, Langer in playoff

Rory Sabbatini has a new plaid jacket to help him forget about all his near-misses. Sabbatini won the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial on Sunday, beating Jim Furyk and Bernhard Langer with a 15-foot birdie putt on the first hole of a playoff. It is the fourth career PGA Tour victory for Sabbatini, the 31-year-old South African who won the Nissan Open last year and earlier this season had consecutive top-three finishes at the Masters, the EDS Byron Nelson Championship and Wachovia.

Claxton wins Nationwide Tour event

Paul Claxton won the Nationwide Tour's inaugural Melwood Prince George's County Open on Sunday, closing with a 5-under 67 for a one-stroke victory over playing partner Jaco Van Zyl and James Driscoll Claxton birdied the 17th and saved par with a 3-foot putt on 18 to finish at 18-under 270 at The Country Club at Woodmore. He's the first player to earn more than $1 million on the tour, picking up $108,000 to push his career total to $1,101,672.

Kim wins Corning Classic

Young Kim overcame consecutive bogeys before the turn, then rallied with three birdies over the final five holes for a 4-under 68 to win the LPGA Corning Classic by three shots over Paula Creamer and Mi Hyun Kim. It was the first career victory for Young Kim, in her fifth year on tour, and came in her 103rd start. She finished at 20-under 268, four shots off the tournament record set four years ago by Juli Inkster. Young Kim won $195,000 (?145,013.

Hansen hits clutch putt to win BMW PGA title

Anders Hansen rolled in a 25-foot birdie putt on the first extra hole to beat Justin Rose and win the BMW PGA Championship for the second time on Sunday. The Dane also won the title in 2002 for his only previous European Tour victory. Rose had a chance to extend the playoff but missed his birdie attempt from 20 feet. Hansen shot 69 and Rose 71 in persistent rain at Wentworth to finish on 8-under 280, a stroke clear of Vijay Singh and Richard Sterne.

Langer’s tied for lead entering final

Bernhard Langer made an eagle and had three birdies in a late four-hole stretch to surge into a share of the lead at the rain-drenched Colonial, which finally finished the third round Sunday morning. Langer, the two-time Masters champion who hasn't won on the PGA Tour since Augusta in 1993, finished a round of 4-under 66 to tie with Rory Sabbatini (62), Scott Verplank (63) and Jim Furyk (68) at 11-under 199. Peter Lonard (67), Tom Lehman (68) and Jeff Maggert (68) were two strokes back.

Verplank shares lead at rain-soaked Colonial

Scott Verplank has set himself up for the chance at a rare Texas two-step on the PGA Tour. Playing through periodic rain showers, Verplank had five birdies in 13 holes Saturday before the third round of the soaked Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial was suspended by impending darkness and more rain. Verplank got to 9 under for a share of the lead with Rory Sabbatini, Pat Perez, Kevin Na, Arron Oberholser and Ben Curtis. Sabbatini had seven birdies and a bogey through 12 holes.
