Ochoa strong; Sorenstam stumbles at Nabisco

Annika Sorenstam's reign atop the women's game could come to an end this week. Lorena Ochoa, last year's LPGA player of the year, shot a 3-under 69 Thursday in the first round of the Kraft Nabisco Championship, the ladies' first major of the season. With a win, Ochoa would dethrone Sorenstam atop the World Golf Rankings, a position Sorenstam has held since the rankings were introduced in 2006.

Dyson takes first-round lead in Estoril Open

Simon Dyson of England shot a 4-under 67 Thursday to take a one-stroke lead after the first round of the Estoril Open. Dyson, who won the Indonesia Open and the KLM Open in 2006 and finished third twice this season, eagled the 16th hole and also had three birdies. Scotsman Stephan Gallacher, Englishman Ross McGowan and South African Louis Oosthuizen all had 68s.

Field for Tiger’s tournament set at 120

The PGA Tour approved a field of 120 for Tiger Woods' tournament in July, defusing a debate that divided players for weeks. When the AT&T National in Washington, D.C., was added to the schedule, PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem suggested it would be considered an invitational, like Jack Nicklaus' Memorial tournament with a field of 105 last year and Arnold Palmer's event at Bay Hill, which had 118 players in 2006.

Houston can’t draw star players

Vancsik wins Madeira Islands Open

Daniel Vancsik won the Madeira Islands Open by seven strokes Sunday after shooting a 4-under 68 in the final round. The Argentine, who finished at 18-under 270 total, won for the first time on the European PGA Tour. He had seven birdies and three bogeys Sunday. David Frost (68) and former champion Santiago Luna (69) tied for second at 11 under. Frost double-bogeyed the fourth hole but birdied eight others. Luna, who the Madeira Islands Open in 1995, had six birdies and three bogeys.

Tiger tunes up for Masters with win at Doral

Tiger Woods didn't go low Sunday during the final round of the CA Championship. But then again, he didn't have to. Woods finished his tune-up for the Masters with a nice, relaxed round of 1-over 73 and still cruised to a two-shot victory.

Ochoa rallies to win Safeway International

Lorena Ochoa blew a four-stroke lead to Suzann Pettersen, then birdied four of the last five holes for a two-stroke victory in the Safeway International on Sunday. Ochoa shot a 4-under 68 to rally past Pettersen (66). Ochoa wasted a four-shot lead in the final round for the second time in three years at Superstition Mountain Golf and Country Club. But this time she survived, overtaking Norway's Pettersen with birdies on the 14th, 15th, 17th and 18th holes. Ochoa, the U.S.

Woods pulls away at Doral

A windy day at Doral Saturday was bad news for anyone not named Tiger. The planet's best golfer opened the round with an eagle 3 and never looked back on his way to a 4-under 68 in suddenly swirling conditions in South Florida. Woods now holds a four-shot lead at the CA Championship entering Sunday's final round.
