Thompson wins New Zealand PGA in playoff
American Nicholas Thompson beat Canada's David Morland IV on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff Sunday to win the New Zealand PGA golf championship.
Both players shot four-under-par final rounds of 68 to be tied at 280, eight-under-par, after 72 holes at the Clearwater Resort course. Thompson made par on the first playoff hole while Morland made bogey out of a greenside bunker, giving the American his first win on the Nationwide Tour.
