Palmer withdraws to be with pregnant wife

Ryan Palmer withdrew from the Buick Invitational on Sunday upon learning his wife was about to give birth to their first child. Palmer was at 3 under, eight shots behind the leaders, and had made par on his first three holes at Torrey Pines when he was told about his wife's situation. He headed home to Dallas, hoping to get there in time for the birth. The 30-year-old Palmer won his only PGA Tour event in 2004 at Disney.

Tiger Woods wins the Buick Invitational for his 7th straight PGA Tour win. He needs just four more to tie Byron Nelson's record of 11.

Goosen wins Qatar Masters by one stroke

Retief Goosen eagled the final hole Sunday to beat Nick O'Hern by one stroke at the Qatar Masters. The South African, who shot a 3-under 69 in the final round and finished the tournament at 15-under 273, had not won in more than a year. "It feels good to be the champion after such a long while," said Goosen, who won his 32nd tournament. "This win sets me up nicely for the rest of the season. It is a good feeling to have an event so early in the new season.

Funk leads by three after second round

Wind or no wind, Fred Funk is tough to beat. Funk had another spectacular day on the greens, shooting an 8-under 64 for a three-stroke lead after the second round of the Turtle Bay Championship. The 50-year-old Funk had his second straight bogey-free round to break the tournament record with a 15-under 129 total. Japan's Kiyoshi Murota, playing on a sponsor's exemption, shot a 65 to finish at 12 under.

Buckle, Snedeker share lead; Tiger two back

With a bogey-free third round Saturday at the Buick Invitational, Tiger Woods put himself in prime position to capture his seventh straight PGA Tour victory. He'll have to pass a pair of rookies, Andrew Buckle and Brandt Snedeker, who share the lead, as well as Kevin Sutherland.

Goosen makes late charge

Two-time U.S. Open champion Retief Goosen had three late birdies Saturday to share the third-round lead at the Qatar Masters with Australians Richard Green and Nick O'Hern. Goosen bogeyed three holes after the eighth but then had birdies at Nos. 15-17 to shoot a 1-under 71 for a 12-under 204. Green also shot 71 and O'Hern had a 69.

Funk shoots 65 to take Turtle Bay lead

Fred Funk handled the tradewinds and tricky greens with ease in shooting a bogey-free 7-under 65 to take the first-round lead in the Turtle Bay Championship on Friday. Tom Kite, coming off a second-place tie in the MasterCard Championship, was two strokes back along with David Eger, John Harris, Kiyoshi Murota and Tom McKnight in the Champions Tour's first full-field event of the year.

Snedeker expands his lead, and his gallery

Upstaging Tiger's '07 debut Thursday was a feel-good story. But now it looks like the kid is playing for keeps. Tour rookie Brandt Snedeker shot a 2-under 70 on Friday to take a three-shot lead at the Buick Invitational, while Woods' 72 has him at 6 under, seven shots back.

Goosen, Green share the lead at Qatar Masters

Retief Goosen and Richard Green shared the lead at 11-under 133 at the halfway stage Friday of the Qatar Masters. First-round leader Goosen shot a 4-under 68 for the second round, while Green joined the South African atop the leaderboard with a 7-under 65. Green, who had seven birdies, went a second day without a bogey. Nick O'Hern slipped a place to third, three shots behind the leaders, after shooting 69. He missed his chance to get closer with consecutive bogeys on the fifth and sixth.
