Woods caps year with another win

What looked to be a dramatic final round at the Target World Challenge quickly turned into a laugher, thanks to Tiger Woods. The tournament host started fast and pulled away from the field with a 6-under 66 for a four-shot victory over U.S. Open champion Geoff Ogilvy in the last tournament of the year.

Els wins South African Open

Ernie Els shot a 7-under 65 Sunday to beat Trevor Immelman by three strokes at the South African Open. Els had eight birdies and a bogey to finish the final round at 24-under 264. It was the South African's first win of 2006. Immelman (71) started the day with a three-stroke lead but had bogeys on the sixth and eighth holes. The South African rebounded with three birdies on the last nine holes, but Els had five.

Asia bounces back from disappointing 2005

World No. 17 Seon-hwa Lee held off ADT Championship winner and fellow 20-year-old Julieta Granada to give Asia a 12 1/2 to 11 1/2 victory over Annika Sorenstam's International team at the Lexus Cup women's team golf tournament Sunday. Seon-hwa Lee had two putts for the win at the par-four 17th to avenge Asia's humiliating loss in 2005. She duly obliged, sending her first to within inches for a tearful Granada to concede as her teammates cheered on. "It was a very difficult putt.

Immelman’s course record puts him in front

Trevor Immelman shot a course-record 9-under 63 Saturday to take a 3-stroke lead into the final round of the South African Open. Overnight leader Patrik Sjoland, who set the previous course record of 64 on Friday, shot 69 and slipped to third, five shots behind Immelman's 20-under 196. Ernie Els managed 66 and was second to Immelman, the US PGA Rookie of the Year, on the 6,963-yard, par-72 Humewood Golf Club course. "It was a great day for me.

Asia takes Lexus Cup lead

Playing captain Grace Park and Hee-Won Han beat Julieta Granada and Morgan Pressel 1-up in best-ball play Saturday to help Asia take a 7-5 lead over the International team in the Lexus Cup. After splitting the six alternate-shot matches Friday, Asia won four of six matches Saturday in hot conditions to take the lead on Tanah Merah's Garden Course. Ogilvy takes lead after Tiger tumbles

Geoff Ogilvy took a one-shot lead Saturday after the third round of the Target World Challenge, benefiting from the late struggles of the tournament host. Tiger Woods had a one-shot lead before bogeying the 16th. He fell a shot back when Ogilvy birdied the 18th hole.

Sorenstam’s Internationals tied with Asia

Annika Sorenstam and Carin Koch beat Joo Mi Kim and Sakura Yokomine 3 and 2 on Friday in alternate-shot play to help the International team tie Asia 3-3 after the first round of the Lexus Cup. Sorenstam and Koch overcame an early two-hole deficit to beat Kim and Yokomine on Tanah Merah Country Club's renovated Garden Course. "I know Carin really well," Sorenstam said. "We grew up together and played a lot of amateur golf together, so today was a perfect pairing.

Ireland to stage first Solheim Cup in 2011

The Solheim Cup will be played for the first time in Ireland in 2011. The Ladies European Tour announced Thursday that the 12th biennial match between Europe and the United States will be staged at a Jack Nicklaus-designed course at Killeen Castle, northwest of Dublin. The course will be opened in 2007, and the dates for the 2011 match have not been decided. "We have chosen Ireland and Killeen Castle for a number of reasons," LET executive director Alexandra Armas said.

Goosen melts down on 17, trails Els

Retief Goosen shot an 11 on the 17th hole Thursday, leaving Ernie Els tied for the lead after a 5-under 67 at the South African Open. Els, who had two birdies and an eagle on the back nine, is tied with Carl Suneson, Trevor Immelman and Andrew Raitt. Lee Westwood, Patrik Sjoland and Des Terblanche were another shot back. Goosen, who closed with a birdie to finish with a 69, was leading when two tee shots went into the bushes on No. 17.
