Tiger looking for seventh straight ‘Slam title

Tiger Woods, Jim Furyk, Geoff Ogilvy, and Mike Weir are down in sunny Hawaii for the Grand Slam of Golf, a 36-hole event that starts on Tuesday. And while Tiger is the favorite to win the event for a seventh straight time, he's picking somebody else to win.

Bohn wins Pebble Beach Invitational

Jason Bohn sank a 25-foot putt on the 17th hole and edged Scott Simpson by one stroke to win the Callaway Golf Pebble Beach Invitational on Sunday. Bohn, whose lone victory in three years on the PGA Tour came at the 2005 B.C. Open, shot a 1-under 71 and finished at 14-under 274. He earned $60,000 of the $300,000 purse in the unofficial tournament that featured 81 players from the four major tours, plus mini-tour players, club pros and amateurs.

Granada becomes an instant millionaire

Shortly after Julieta Granada came to the United States from Paraguay at 14 to hone her golf game at a Florida academy, she grew concerned over how much money her family was spending. So she and her mother stopped renting cars, relying instead on a bicycle to get around town. "We rode the bike around for a year," Granada said. "We only rented cars for tournaments." Field of 8 set for LPGA’s finale

Gogel announces his retirement

Matt Gogel, who won one tournament during his seven-year PGA Tour career, announced Saturday he is retiring next year. Gogel, 35, won the 2002 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am and also finished second to Tiger Woods in the 2000 event. But he finished out of the top 125 for the first time in 2006, making the cut in only three of 14 PGA Tour events. He finished 214th on the money list with $108,230. Gogel, who has earned $4.

Woods lets lead slip away in Japan

Ireland's Padraig Harrington made a dramatic late comeback before beating Tiger Woods in a playoff Sunday to win the Dunlop Phoenix tournament. Woods held what looked like an insurmountable three-shot lead with six holes left, but his three-putt bogey on the 16th helped Harrington tie it.

Green holds one-stroke lead at Aussie Open

Nathan Green shot a 1-over-par 73 Saturday to hold a one-stroke lead going into Sunday's final round of the Australian Open at Royal Sydney. Green, who led by two strokes after each of the first two rounds, had back-to-back bogeys on the 14th and 15th holes Saturday to create a three-way tie for the lead. But Green recovered for a birdie on 16 to finish with a three-round total of 5-under 211. Australians Brett Rumford, who shot 68 Saturday, and Gavin Coles (69), are tied for second.

Sorenstam ends season on a down note

Annika Sorenstam is the world's No. 1 golfer and two-time defending champion of the season-ending ADT Tournament. So it came as a major surprise when she missed the cut after Friday's second round. It's only the sixth time she's failed to advance in 250 LPGA starts since the start of the 1995 season.

Nathan Green has first-round lead

Friday, November 17th, 2006
Nathan Green shot a 5-under-par 67 in cold, windy and rainy conditions at Royal Sydney on Thursday to take a two-stroke lead after the first round of the Australian Open. With heavy rain and gusting winds affecting most of the morning players, Green, starting from the 10th hole, had five straight pars before birdies on 15 and 16 and a bogey on the 18th. He had four birdies on his final nine. Only six of the 143 starters finished under par Thursday. More than 40 golfers shot 80 or higher.
